By opening the gate, the bottom gate hinge moves out a little. This lifts the outer end of the gate as it swings open. Consequently, when the gate is released, gravity pulls the outer end down and the gate closes under its own weight.

These hinges are designed to lift a gate at its outside edge as it swings open. To calculate the lift, multiply the gate length by 2 and divide by the distance between the top and bottom hooks.1x short rising bottom strap, and 1 rocker plate. Designed for 75mm (3 inch) thick gates.

These replace the bottom hinge. The higher you set the gate to lift the faster and more forceful the gate will close. It relies on gravity to close the gate so it works with more force on wider gates.
